Detailed directions to Swazi Trails can be found on this page.  The Swazi Trails office and trip departure point is located at Mantenga Craft & Lifestyle Centre. This is situated in the Ezulwini Valley, just south of Mbabane.

Directions from Mbabane to Swazi Trails:

  1. From the city of Mbabane, follow the signs south towards Manzini on the highway (MR3).
  2. At the bottom of the big hill, approximately 6.2km from the last Mbabane off-ramp, take the Ezulwini Valley exit left and cross over the highway (sign indicates Hotels and Casino). This is the old Ezulwini road MR103.
  3. Continue for approximately 5 km on the MR103 and you will see our Swazi Trails sign indicating a right turn onto a smaller tarred road – Mantenga Drive.
  4. Continue with Mantenga Drive for approximately 1.3km and turn right again onto the dirt road where you will find the Mantenga Craft & Lifestyle Centre. The Swazi Trails office is situated within the craft centre.

 

Directions from King Mswati III Airport (via Manzini) to Swazi Trails:

  1. Exit the airport and follow road signage to Manzini.
  2. Follow the MR3 highway right through the City of Manzini. No turn-offs – keep straight.
  3. The MR3 continues on the other side of the city, past Matsapha and Lozitha.
  4. After Lozitha, look out for the Ezulwini/Lobamba exit.
  5. Take the highway exit left. Turn left at the stop street and cross the Lusushwana River.
  6. Approximately 2km thereafter travel past the soccer stadium (on right) and Houses of Parliament (on left). At the traffic circle take the second exit (direction 2 o’clock).
  7. Another 300m further on, at the next circle take the 3rd exit (direction 3’0clock) at the junction onto the MR103.
  8. Travel 1.3km, crossing over the river bridge and turn left at Cultural Village Road, where you will see Swazi Trails signage. This is immediately in front of the US Embassy building.
  9. After 150m turn right at the stop street and travel uphill on Mantenga Drive.
  10. After 750m turn left onto a dirt road where you will find the Mantenga Craft & Lifestyle Centre. The Swazi Trails office is situated within the craft centre.

 

Directions from Johannesburg (Gauteng) to Swazi Trails:

  1. Head towards Witbank on the N12 or N4 (from Pretoria)
  2. Pass Witbank and Middleburg, and some 30min thereafter take the R33 turn-off towards Carolina. Pass through Carolina town.
  3. On exiting Carolina stay with the R33 which turns right immediately after the railway line crossing.
  4. 41km further on turn left at the T-junction towards Warburton on the N17. This road leads directly to the Oshoek border post. Alternatively, take the N17 all the way from the south-east of Johannesburg through to Ermelo and stay with it as it continues to Oshoek borderpost (07h00-00h00)
  5. After the Oshoek/Ngwenya border the highway is referred to as the MR3 which leads to Mbabane.
  6. From the city of Mbabane, follow the signs south towards Manzini still on the highway (MR3).

Directions from Piet Retief /Mkhondo (Mpumalanga) to Swazi Trails:

  1. Leave Piet Retief (new name Mkhondo) to the north on the N2 road. Immediately before the large shopping mall, turn right on Theo Mocke street – signposted to Emahlathini.
  2. Just 850m further on turn right again on the tar road to Emahlathini. Note the straight road (dirt) also goes to the border. Use the tar road, but be aware of potholes on this short stretch of road.
  3. After 22km turn right into the Emahlathini (Sicunusa) border crossing into Swaziland (08h00-18h00).
  4. Once in Swaziland the road is now referred to as the MR4. Continue straight past Mankayane and after a distance of 46.50km reach a large traffic circle.
  5. At the traffic circle turn right towards Malkerns (exit at 3 o’clock) on the MR18.
  6. After approximately 12km turn left on the MR27 through Malkerns village.
  7. A further 6km further on, turn left onto the MR103 road at the Mahlanya market T-junction.
  8. After 7.3km turn left at Cultural Village Road, immediately infront of the US Embassy, where you will see Swazi Trails signage. (If you reach The Gables Shopping Centre you have gone too far).
  9. After 150m turn right at the stop street and travel uphill on Mantenga Drive.
  10. After 750m turn left onto a dirt road where you will find the Mantenga Craft & Lifestyle Centre. The Swazi Trails office is situated within the craft centre.

 

Directions from Kruger Park to Swazi Trails:

  1. The shortest and most scenic route to Swaziland and Swazi Trails is via Kruger’s Malelane Gate, which is on the southern side of the park.
  2. Note: The country can also be accessed via Kruger’s Crocodile Bridge. See Komatipoort directions below.
  3. From the Malelane Gate continue on the R 570 road through Malelane town.
  4. Stay with the R570 as it crosses the N4 highway and heads for “Jeppes Reef” Border Post.
  5. The border Jeppes Reef-Matsamo border crossing is 40km down this road (07h00 to 20h00)
  6. After the border the road is referred to as the MR1. Continue straight in the direction of Piggs Peak.
  7. Travel for approximately 88km, past Piggs Peak, the Komati Valley and Malolotja until you reach the MR3 highway. Turn left onto the highway towards Mbabane.
  8. Bypassing the city of Mbabane, follow the signs south towards Manzini on the highway (MR3).
  9. At the bottom of the big hill, approximately 6.2km from the last Mbabane off-ramp, take the Ezulwini Valley exit left and cross over the highway (sign indicates Hotels and Casino). This is the old Ezulwini road MR103.

Directions from Komatipoort (Mpumalanga) to Swazi Trails:

  1. From Kruger’s Crocodile Bridge or the Komatipoort town, follow the R571 south from its crossing of the N4 highway.
  2. The Mananga Border post is 61km down this R571 road. (07h00-18h00)
  3. 3. Once you are in Swaziland, the route is referred to as the MR5. Travel straight for approx. 5km and turn right on the new road which goes to the north of Sand River Dam. Note: this is still incorrect on many printed maps… and even some GPS base maps.
  4. Travel for approx. 30 km and turn left near Bhalekane, heading towards Manzini.
  5. After 50km reach the MR5 junction with the MR3 at Mafutseni.
  6. Turn right onto the MR3 toward Manzini.
  7. Pass through the centre of Manzini (about 16km) and carry on straight with the MR3 towards Mbabane for another 19km until you see the Ezulwini/Lobamba exit.
  8. Take the highway exit. Turn left at the stop street and cross the Lusushwana River.
  9. Approximately 2km thereafter travel past the soccer stadium (on right) and Houses of Parliament (on left). At the traffic circle take the second exit (direction 2 o’clock).
  10. Another 300m further on at the next traffic circle, take the 3rd exit ( 3 0’clock direction) at the junction onto the MR103.
  11. Travel 1.3km, crossing over the river bridge and turn left at Cultural Village Road, immediately in front of the US Embassy, where you will see Swazi Trails signage. (If you reach The Gables Shopping Centre you have gone too far).
  12. After 150m turn right at the stop street and travel uphill on Mantenga Drive.
  13. After 750m turn left onto a dirt road where you will find the Mantenga Craft & Lifestyle Centre. The Swazi Trails office is situated within the craft centre.

 

Directions from Hazyview, Nelspruit / Mbombela (Mpumalanga) to Swazi Trails:

  1. From Hazyview, take the R40 to Nelspruit (now known as Mbombela).
  2. Travel straight through Nelspruit on the R40, heading towards Barberton.
  3. Just before you reach Barberton, turn right on the R38 towards Badplaas.
  4. On entering Badplaas, cross over a bridge, and turn left to Lochiel on the R541.
  5. Continue straight along this road, and you will see a sign indicating a right turn towards Mbabane. Turn right here staying with the R541. This can be easy to miss!
  6. After another 18km turn left onto the N17 towards Oshoek Border Post, which is 26km further on.
  7. After the Oshoek/Ngwenya border (07h00-00h00) the highway is referred to as the MR3 which leads to Mbabane.
  8. From the city of Mbabane, follow the signs south towards Manzini still on the highway (MR3).
  9. At the bottom of the big hill, approximately 6.2km from the last Mbabane off-ramp, take the Ezulwini Valley exit left and cross over the highway (sign indicates Hotels and Casino). This is the old Ezulwini road MR103.
  10. Continue for approximately 5 km on the MR103 and you will see our Swazi Trails sign indicating a right turn onto a smaller tarred road – Mantenga Drive.
  11. Continue with Mantenga Drive for approximately 1.3km and turn right again onto the dirt road where you will find the Mantenga Craft & Lifestyle Centre. The Swazi Trails office is situated within the craft centre.

 

 

Directions from Durban (KwaZulu-Natal) to Swazi Trails:

  1. The best route is to come up the North Coast on the N2 past Hluhluwe and Mkuze.
  2. Just after crossing the Pongola River, and about 20km before Pongola turn right towards the Golela-Lavumisa border crossing (07h00-22h00). The sign is not too clear so be on the look out for it. If you reach Pongola you have gone too far.
  3. The border is about 10km from the turn off.
  4. Follow the MR8 road for about 155 km going past Big Bend and Siphofaneni and onwards towards Manzini.
  5. On reaching the MR3 T-junction (Galp Garage on the left) turn left to Manzini.
  6. Pass through the centre of Manzini (about 16km) and carry on straight with the MR 3 towards Mbabane for another 19km until you see the Ezulwini/Lobamba exit.
  7. Take the highway exit. Turn left at the stop street and cross the Lusushwana River.
  8. Approximately 2km thereafter travel past the soccer stadium (on right) and Houses of Parliament (on left). At the traffic circle take the second exit (direction 2 o’clock).
  9. Another 300m further on at the next traffic circle, take 3rd exit (direction 3 o’clock) at the junction onto the MR103.
  10. Travel 1.3km, crossing over the river bridge and turn left at Cultural Village Road, immediately before the US Embassy, where you will see Swazi Trails signage. (If you reach The Gables Shopping Centre you have gone too far).
  11. After 150m turn right at the stop street and travel uphill on Mantenga Drive.

Directions from Maputo (Mozambique) to Swazi Trails:

  1. Depart Maputo on the EN2 past Matola and Boane.
  2. Approximately 5km after Boane turn left onto the EN5, passing the quarry on your right.
  3. A further 16.5km onwards turn left onto the road to Goba.
  4. Continue straight with this road to enter Swaziland at the Goba/Mhlumeni border post.
  5. From the border continue with the MR7 approximately 30km to Siteki and stay with it as it passes the town and descends the Lubombo mountain to its junction with the MR3 road.
  6. Turn left on the MR3 towards Manzini.
  7. Pass through the centre of Manzini (about 16km) and carry on straight with the MR 3 towards Mbabane for another 19km until you see the Ezulwini/Lobamba exit.
  8. Take the highway exit. Turn left at the stop street and cross the Lusushwana River.
  9. Approximately 2km thereafter travel past the soccer stadium (on right) and Houses of Parliament (on left). At the traffic circle take the second exit (direction 2 o’clock).
  10. Another 300m further on at the second traffic circle, take the 3rd exit (direction 3’0 clock) at the junction onto the MR103.
  11. Travel 1.3km, crossing over the river bridge and turn left at Cultural Village Road, immediately in front of the US Embassy, where you will see Swazi Trails signage. (If you reach The Gables Shopping Centre you have gone too far).
  12. After 150m turn right at the stop street and travel uphill on Mantenga Drive.
